Walkington village knows all about style – and stoicism! This is Great Britain, we take everything the weather throws at us and we just deal with it. Walkington is no exception. And for the record neither am I! We all know what Sunday’s weather had in store and I can only thank the Webster family profusely for being my personal umbrella bearers. I may have been cold and damp but if Walkington were willing to party in it then I was willing to document it! As a photographer I have long since given up looking at the weather forecast, whatever happens I deal with it!
The Walkington Jubilee celebrations began with a treasure hunt on Saturday where participants had to really know their stuff regarding royalty both past and present, the effigies hand made by the residents were pretty accurate but more often hilarious (please check out Prince Harry’s hair).
Sadly the cricket tournament was cancelled on Sunday for obvious reasons and most residents postponed street parties until Monday but there were a few hardy souls who went ahead anyway. The culmination of the Jubilee events was the Party in the Park. Every gazebo in Walkington appeared on the field to keep everyone dry for the barbecue, concert and spectacular firework display.
Thank you Walkington, you were great hosts!
